Getting God’s Forgiveness
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9
When we get saved, we get a relationship with Christ. We become a son of God. There’s nothing we can do to change that relationship. Even if we sin, deny God, and walk away from the faith, we’ll still be saved. You can’t lose that relationship!
However, when we sin we lose our fellowship with God. That means you won’t be walking in the Spirit. You can’t talk to God or hear from him until you get that fellowship restored.
If you were to sin against your earthly father, you wouldn’t stop being his son or daughter. You would, however, need to ask his forgiveness before you could be on good terms with him again.
That’s the way it is with God. Sin requires forgiveness, and God is ready to forgive our sin and restore fellowship any time we ask. This verse shows us how. Simply pray and confess your sin to Jesus Christ. Tell him specifically what you did, and that you’re sorry for the sin and want his blood to cleanse you from it. When you do that, the Bible says he will forgive you and have fellowship with you once again.
